Harakah journo, two others, remanded for trespass at Selangor MB residence

One of the other two believed to be a state PAS leader, Muhamad Sufi Kamari

KUALA LUMPUR – A journalist working for PAS mouthpiece Harakah has been remanded for two days to assist in a probe after attempting to trespass into the residence of Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

Two other individuals, one of whom is believed to be a PAS leader in Selangor, Muhamad Sufi Kamari, were also remanded.

Shah Alam district police chief Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim, when contacted, said the trio were remanded for two days beginning today.

“The three men, between 31 and 35-years-old, were arrested about 7.30pm yesterday.

“They said they were on the premises of the MB’s residence for a meeting; however, they didn’t have an official invitation from the MB’s office.

“These individuals don’t have any prior criminal records,” he added.

Iqbal said the investigation was being carried out under Section 447 of the Penal Code, which carries a prison sentence of up to three months, a fine of up to RM1,000, or both.

“The public is advised to always adhere to the laws and regulations to prevent incidents like this from occurring,” he added.

Members of the public who have information about the incident are asked to contact investigating officer, Mira Noraien Norashid, at 011-1143-0765.

Previously, a police report lodged by a staff member at the residence went viral, detailing the actions of a male journalist who had attempted to enter without an invitation or permission but had been caught in the act.

After his initial attempt failed, the reporter allegedly attempted to secretly enter by hiding inside a Proton Waja. The vehicle was also transporting two other individuals who were headed to the residence for a meeting.

However, police thwarted the second attempt when they inspected the sedan in the residence’s parking lot.

The three individuals were arrested by police and taken to the Shah Alam police station yesterday for trespassing.

Earlier, a video showing the three individuals in question being detained by staff members had also gone viral on social media. – January 6, 2024
