KUALA LUMPUR – The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, has decreed that Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the Madani government should remain governing the country.

The prime minister conveyed that this royal directive was issued during his audience with the king today.

Anwar, in a statement released today, said that Sultan Abdullah had emphasised the palace’s non-involvement in any political manoeuvres.

“Today, I had an audience with Yang di-Pertuan Agong to brief him on tomorrow’s cabinet paper and to address current developments. His majesty has instructed me, as the prime minister, and the Madani government, to continue our governance of the country,”

“The king also explicitly stated that the palace will refrain from engaging in any political scheming.”

Earlier today, Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, who also serves as the Perikatan Nasional (PN) election director-general, hinted at the coalition’s possession of enough statutory declarations (SDs) to challenge the government.

However, Sanusi did not provide further details on the matter.

Last Saturday, the opposition leader’s office refuted claims that the King had granted permission for an audience with 118 PN members of parliament to present their SDs.

The office dismissed a purportedly fake statement circulated on social media, allegedly issued by PN secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin. – January 9, 2023
