KUALA LUMPUR – Beruas MP Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham suffered losses to his property after his residence and vehicles in Ayer Tawar, Perak, were torched following an attack using Molotov cocktail around 3am, today.
The incident, which was uploaded on the DAP lawmaker’s Facebook account, stated that the subsequent fire was managed to be brought into control and extinguished by Fire and Rescue Department personnel.
“The fire incident which occurred at the residence of the Beruas MP happened past midnight.
“The fire was extinguished and no victims were reported hurt,” read the statement which was posted by the account’s admin, today.
It is learnt that the incident caused Ngeh’s Mercedes Benz E300 to be completely destroyed while his Honda CRV and Toyota Hilux were damaged.
The ceiling and roof of his garage located at Taman Semarak Jaya, Ayer Tawar, Perak also was damaged in the incident.
In light of the incident, DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke, representing the party and its members, condemned the attack and expressed sympathies and solidarity with Ngeh and his family.
“A police report has been lodged and we are confident that the police will act swiftly and immediately to investigate and apprehend the perpetrators behind the arson.
“DAP strongly condemns this violent act which threatens the safety of his (Ngeh) family’s life. We insist that any form of violence is unacceptable in dealing with differences in our society,” he said, in a statement, today.
The party, Loke added, also called on the Home Ministry and the police force to take serious note of this incident and ensure that public safety and order are always maintained. – January 10, 2024
