KUALA LUMPUR – Rectification works along the Sg Dua water treatment plant (WTP) and 22 other locations in Penang have started since 6am, today.

With this, 590,000 residents in the state will begin to endure a four-day scheduled water cut.

The Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) announced that the repair works were to replace two 1.2m-diameter control valves at Sg Dua, water works, and preventive maintenance projects at 22 other locations.

“The Sg Dua WTP has been suspended according to schedule and related works in other locations have started. PBAPP will update the progress status of water works at Sg Dua WTP with accurate and authentic information.

“All users affected by water supply disruptions are requested to continue to follow updates through the official PBAPP social media channels,” the state water corporation said in a statement this morning.

More than 80% of the population in Penang is affected by the water disruption. To facilitate their needs, PBAPP will provide nine water tankers including 27 jumbo lorry tankers with a capacity of 40,000l to deliver supplies until 6am, January 14. – January 10, 2024
