Officials recover bottle believed to be part of explosive from crime scene

11:49 AM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – Police are looking for the individual suspected of tossing molotov cocktails into the residence of Beruas MP Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham in Ayer Tawar, Perak, earlier this morning.

In a statement, today, Perak police chief Datuk Seri Yusri Hassan Basri said the Manjung police force had received a call from Ngeh himself who reported the incident at 2.55am.

The incident, he said, led to a Mercedes Benz being completely destroyed and caused damage to the rear and right side of a Honda CRV, as well as the front part of a Toyota Hilux.

A bottle, suspected to be a molotov cocktail, was also recovered from the scene of the crime.

The case is being investigated under Section 435 of the Penal Code (committing mischief by fire), he added.

Yusri called on the public with any information on the incident to inform investigation officer Mohd Azalan Ab Karim by calling 019-3927837 to aid investigations.

He also advised the public not to make any speculation which could affect investigations.

In light of the incident, DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke, called on the Home Ministry and the police force to take serious note and ensure that public safety and order are always maintained. – January 10, 2024
