RM700 mil publicity spend: MACC records Ismail Sabri’s statement, source says

However, anti-graft body is yet to confirm matter as recently it was announced one former PM will be summoned

PUTRAJAYA – Former prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob gave his statement to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) this morning regarding investigations into projects awarded to certain individuals, including the implementation of two programmes under his previous administration.

A source familiar with the matter said the investigation is being carried out under the MACC Act 2009 and the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorist Financing, and Proceeds of Illegal Activities Act 2001.

However, MACC is yet to confirm this.

Last Monday, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki, confirmed that he will summon a former prime minister to testify regarding the expenditure of RM700 million for promotion and publicity purposes this week or next week at the latest.

He said that the officials in the former prime minister’s office who were involved in the expenditure of funds will also be called.

According to Azam, this is to find out how the money was spent for promotion and publicity purposes to promote the government’s achievements in the period of 2020 to 2022. – January 10, 2024
