Siblings arrested for vandalising Federal Court judge’s car

15-year-olds confess to scratching vehicle, deliberately breaking and stealing judicial crest

5:03 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR –  Two siblings were arrested on Monday after scratching the official car of a Federal Court judge and stealing the vehicle’s judicial crest, police said.

Sentul district police chief Ahmad Sukarno Mohd Zahari said the suspects, both aged 15 years and in Form 3, were arrested at a house in Batu Caves, following a report by the judge.

At the house, police also seized the judicial crest belonging to the vehicle, Sukarno said in a statement.

“Investigations found that the two suspects scratched the car’s surface using a rock.

“They confessed to deliberately breaking the judicial crest on the car while en route home after playing football at a nearby field,” his statement said.

At a press conference, Sukarno told the media that the crest, which bears the word “hakim” or judge in Bahasa Malaysia, was intended as a gift to a brother whose name is Hakim and whose birthday is in March.

The siblings have no prior criminal records.

The case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code, and the duo may face prison time of up to two years or a fine, or both, if convicted.

On Monday, police received a report from a local man about the Federal Court judge’s official vehicle being scratched with a sharp object at the roadside parking area near Taman Koperasi Polis Fasa Dua.

The vehicle’s licence plate and judicial crest were also taken.

The complainant noticed the incident around 8.50pm, after completing Isya prayers at the mosque. – January 12, 2024
