KUALA LUMPUR – Rallying cries of “Palestine will never die” once again are reverberating in front of the United States Embassy in Jalan Tun Razak here as more than 2,000 people join the three-hour solidarity rally in conjunction with the Global Day of Action for Gaza.

Led by Boycott, Divestments, Sanctions (BDS) Malaysia, the movement is joined by 33 organisations, such as Humanitarian Care Malaysia (MyCARE), among others.

BDS Malaysia chairman Prof Mohd Nazari Ismail and MyCARE chairman Hafidzi Mohd Noor told the growing crowd that the continuous pressure and protests against Israel’s deadly siege on Gaza have led to the country being hauled to the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

“Even though we do not have big expectations for the enforcement of any ICJ ruling due to the veto power held by the US (in the United Nations Security Council), we must continue to push for a permanent ceasefire.”

Also giving a speech is former Batu MP Chua Tian Chang, who said: “Every Malaysian, including political leaders, must speak up about the struggles of Palestinians in Gaza.”

Participants also started chanting: “Netanyahu you can hide, we charge you with genocide.”

They also brought dozens of body replicas wrapped in burial shrouds bearing the names of those who died in Gaza.

Meanwhile, humanitarian Dr Fauziah Mohd Hasan highlighted the plight of Palestinian mothers and children due to the lack of resources in the war-torn territory. – January 13, 2024
