KUANTAN – The Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) today confirmed that some of its members have been summoned by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for questioning over the ‘procurement cartel’ involving construction work at one of its base camps, involving more than RM9 million.

RMN commander, Admiral Tan Sri Abdul Rahman Ayob said that the anti-graft agency had also taken some documents to facilitate its investigation, which is understood to involve a project that was carried out last year.

“The RMN has extended its full cooperation in the investigation. Let them (MACC) continue with their job and we will wait for the results of the investigation.

“RMN will not compromise with any of its members involved in wrongdoings and they should be aware of the actions they will face if they do something wrong,” he said when met by reporters after attending the Naming and Commissioning its patrol craft, KD Sri Sabah and KD Sri Sarawak, at the Tanjung Gelang RMN Base jetty, here today.

When asked whether RMN will conduct an internal investigation into the matter, Abdul Rahman said he would wait for the report from MACC before deciding.

Yesterday, three men believed to be the masterminds of the ‘procurement cartel’ were arrested by the Johor MACC at its office at about 6pm.

It is understood that the arrests were made on charges of false claims and being masterminds of the ‘procurement cartel’ involving 13 supplier companies managing construction works at the camp. – January 19, 2024
