GOMBAK – Selangor police have launched investigations and taken disciplinary action against 311 of its officers since last year.

Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said out of those, 33 individuals have been charged in court, 14 have been suspended from duty, and 21 have been dismissed from service.

Hussein emphasised the police’s commitment to addressing disciplinary violations, noting the relatively small number compared to the 15,000 total personnel in the state.

“21 individuals are implicated in drug-related cases, 11 in criminal cases, and one in a case involving the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC). Strict action is being taken against them,” he told a press conference today.

Hussein said that this month alone, one officer and 10 personnel involved in disciplinary cases have been charged in court.

“The supervisors of the implicated members are also under investigation under Regulation 3C of the Public Officers (Conduct and Discipline) Regulations 1993,” he added.

“Action will be taken if they fail in their supervisory duties.”

In response to these challenges, he said Selangor police have established two special teams within the Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department to continually monitor frontliners. They are receiving assistance from Bukit Aman’s Department of Integrity and Standard Compliance (JIPS).

On a seperate matter, Hussein said a total of 167 Mobile Patrol Vehicle (MPV) officers, who have served the unit for more than five years, will be reassigned to other units.

“With this mobilisation, I believe we will strengthen the MPV and URB (motorcycle patrol unit) services and identify members with disciplinary issues,” he said. – January 22, 2024
