Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul refrains from naming them, but says three have asked to announce their decision at their own time

PUCHONG – Bersatu’s Bukit Gantang MP, Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal, has revealed that 10 more opposition parliamentarians are ready to back Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

However, Syed Hussin stopped short of sharing their names.

However, he did tease that the MPs involved are representing constituencies in Kedah, Penang, Perak, Pahang, Terengganu, Melaka, Kelantan and Selangor.

Of the 10, three have requested that they announce their decision at their own time. 

“I hope they will state their support when the Dewan Rakyat convenes in February,” he said in a press conference here.

He also urged five of Bersatu’s high-profile MPs – Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin (Larut), Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee (Beluran), Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin (Masjid Tanah), Datuk Rosol Wahid (Hulu Terengganu) and Datuk Seri Ikmal Hisham Abdul Aziz (Tanah Merah) – to support the prime minister and exit the party.

“These five are ‘orang kuat’. They left Umno and Barisan Nasional to form Bersatu, so they can help support the prime minister in many ways.

“The situation in Bersatu is unstable and could be the factor for these five MPs to switch their allegiance,” said Syed Hussin.

In addition to Syed Hussin, five Bersatu MPs have publicly stated their support for Anwar. They are Datuk Zulkafperi Hanapi (Tg Karang), Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar), Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan), Zahari Kechik (Jeli), and Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang).

With Zulkafperi’s announcement yesterday, this brings the total MP support for Anwar to 153 in the Dewan Rakyat. – January 26, 2024
