KUALA LUMPUR – The Bersatu Supreme Council meeting tonight is set to discuss the issue of its six MPs switching their support to back Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s administration.

The matter was confirmed by several party leaders approached by reporters outside the Perikatan Nasional (PN) headquarters in Publika, where the meeting is scheduled to take place at about 8.30pm tonight.

Among the figures from the opposition party who stopped to briefly speak with the press include party information chief Datuk Razali Idris and Selangor Bersatu chief Datuk Abdul Rashid Asari.

Both disclosed that the meeting would address matters involving the six MPs, all of whom had cited the well-being of their constituents in declaring their backing of Anwar’s government.

Also spotted entering the coalition’s headquarters were Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal, party vice-president and Federal Territories chief Datuk Radzi Jidin, and party Women’s wing chief Datuk Seri Rina Mohd Harun.

Other Bersatu Supreme Council members present included Indera Mahkota MP Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah, Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan, and Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof.

The sixth and latest Bersatu MP to declare support for Anwar was Tanjong Karang MP Datuk Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi, just four days ago.

The five other Bersatu MPs who stated their backing of Anwar’s administration in the span of a few months last year are Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar), Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan), Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang), Zahari Kechik (Jeli), and Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Bukit Gantang).

Syed Abu Hussin has since repeatedly claimed that more Bersatu lawmakers will jump ship to support Anwar, asserting that such moves will take place before Parliament convenes on February 26. – January 28, 2024
