Police sergeant accused of raping 16-year-old arrested yesterday, say Perak cops

42-year-old suspect under remand till Wednesday to aid investigation

KUALA LUMPUR – A police sergeant accused of raping a 16-year-old student last year has been detained yesterday.

Perak police chief Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said the suspect aged 42 was under remand until Wednesday to aid in the investigation.

He also promised to conduct a transparent probe to ensure that the victim would receive justice, even though the suspect is a police officer.

“The Bukit Aman integrity and standards compliance department will also carry out an internal investigation into the suspect,” he said in a press conference at the Ipoh police headquarters today.

Yusri said the victim and her family members had given their statements to the authorities at the Perak Tengah district police headquarters.

The case is being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape.

Previously, there were media reports of the 16-year-old student alleging that the rape happened twice in July and October 2023, in the parking area of ​​a supermarket in the Perak Tengah district. – January 29, 2024
