KUALA LUMPUR – Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor is successful in his bid to transfer his two sedition charges from the Selayang sessions court to the high court here.

Judge Datuk Aslam Zainuddin ruled this after going through written submissions, affidavits and oral submissions from both parties.

Sanusi’s application was filed on January 15 and submitted to the Attorney-General’s Chambers the following day.

Sanusi was charged with uttering seditious words regarding the appointment of the Selangor menteri besar and the setting up of the unity government during a ceramah in July last year.

The Jeneri assemblyman was accused of committing both offences at Simpang 4, Taman Selayang Mutiara-Kg Bendahara, Gombak, at about 11pm on July 11.

Both charges were framed under Section 4(1)(a) of the Sedition Act 1948 and punishable under Section 4(1) of the same law, which provides a maximum fine of up to RM5,000 or imprisonment for up to three years or both if convicted. – February 1, 2024
