Report on collapsed Foodpanda deal ‘false’, Delivery Hero confirms talks ongoing

Parent company says Supervisory Board approval must be obtained to execute any definitive agreement, if an agreement is reached

KUALA LUMPUR – Negotiations of the potential sale of Foodpanda’s Southeast Asia business are ongoing, said parent company Delivery Hero SE amid speculations that the deal fell through.

“There are market rumours that the negotiations for the potential sale have collapsed. We confirm that the negotiations for the potential sale are ongoing, and, thus, the rumours are false,” Delivery Hero said in a statement.

“In any event, if an agreement is reached, approval of the Supervisory Board, which is still outstanding, will need to be obtained for execution of any definitive agreement. 

“If signed, the transaction is expected to be subject to certain conditions including obtaining the necessary regulatory approvals in the relevant jurisdictions.”

Yesterday, the New Straits Times reported that talks to sell its Foodpanda business in several Southeast Asian markets to Grab fell through.

Citing sources, the report said the deal collapsed as the parties were not able to agree on the “sky-high valuation”.

Despite reports of Foodpanda’s potential sale, Delivery Hero has not named any potential buyers.

Foodpanda has largely stagnated in Southeast Asia after the pandemic lockdowns were lifted.

On September 20, 2023, Delivery Hero confirmed negotiations on a potential sale of its Foodpanda business in selected Southeast Asian markets covering Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar and Laos were taking place. – February 3, 2024
