Not funny, Tony: Umno’s Wan Rosdy demands DAP man’s apology over ‘biadab’ quips on Najib

Party veep says ex-Damansara MP’s remarks are ‘cheap publicity’ and ‘an insult to country’s legal system’

KUALA LUMPUR – Umno is clearly not finding Tony Pua’s quips over Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s reduced jail term funny as vice-president Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail labelled them as “cheap publicity”.

Wan Rosdy, who is also Pahang menteri besar, said Pua must apologise and remove his Facebook posts, otherwise Umno will take legal action.

Umno and its members are in sorrow over the Pardons Board’s decision to not grant its former president a full pardon.

“In our sad state, Tony Pua continues to take a dig at the board’s decision on Najib’s pardon petition with several of his Facebook posts. Clearly, this is an insult to the country’s legal system.

“He peddles in cheap publicity seeing he no longer commands support from the people and his own party. His own political career is heading to an end,” he said on his Facebook account today.

Since the board’s decision on Friday, DAP’s Pua has been commenting on the matter on his social media platforms.

“Oh wow. After all these years, Najib/Umno cybertroopers still love me,” he wrote on Friday.

He also posted a “get out of jail free card” and well as a fake “apa malu bossku” 50% discount code.

The “bossku” moniker was made popular by Najib and often used in recent election campaigns.

Yesterday, Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh said the wing would be lodging police reports nationwide over Pua’s remarks.

“See you in court a**hole.”

Dr Akmal also shared a screenshot of Pua’s remarks, which were posted on the latter’s Facebook page. One of the posts was captioned: “King Klep pardoned! Looking forward to a public holiday too!”

DAP and Umno are among the parties in the unity government.

On Friday, the Pardons Board secretariat for the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya announced that Najib had been granted a reduced jail sentence and fine.

Najib’s jail sentence was halved from 12 years to six, while his fine was reduced from RM210 million to RM50 million.

He would have to serve an additional year in prison in default, should he fail to pay the fine.

Najib began serving his prison sentence on August 23, 2022 after losing his final appeal at the Federal Court. He submitted his application for a royal pardon in September the same year.

The former Umno president was convicted by the high court in July 2020 of corruption involving RM42 million of funds belonging to SRC International, a former subsidiary of 1Malaysia Development Bhd. – February 4, 2024
