IGP ‘working overtime’ to react to reports ‘presumably filed by Umno boys’, says DAP man

9:24 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – DAP member Tony Pua remains sanguine despite being called up by police over his alleged flippant remarks about former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s sentence reduction.

While quipping about Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain’s diligence for “working overtime”, the former Damansara MP said Bukit Aman called him to give a statement at 1pm tomorrow.

“Ah. No escape after all,” he said in a Facebook post.

“The IGP himself acted very fast, very efficiently, working overtime on a Sunday, paying personal attention to the reports, presumably filed by Umno boys.

“I’m being investigated for sedition over my ‘I beg your pardon’ Facebook post. Wish me luck!”

Earlier today, Razarudin confirmed that Pua was being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948, and for misuse of network facilities under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

Police cited the following posts by Pua – “Trust me. It’s not a scam”, “oh wow, after all these years, NAJIB/UMNO cybertrooper still love me”, “I beg your pardon?”, “can someone send me to jail for 1 year and in exchange, pay me RM50 mil?”, “Pretty please?”, and “King Klep pardoned!!”

Meanwhile, Pua had been on a field day since the Pardons Board secretariat for the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya announced Najib’s sentence reduction on Friday. – February 4, 2024
