Updated KL-S’gor borders to be completed by next year: Amirudin

19 localities including Cheras, Gombak, Ampang and Hulu Langat will be affected by revisions

6:41 PM MYT

SHAH ALAM – The demarcation between Kuala Lumpur and Selangor is expected to be finalised sometime in 2025, according to Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

While discussions are ongoing between the two administrations, Amirudin said as of now, a total of 19 localities – including Cheras, Gombak, Ampang and Hulu Langat – will be affected by the plan.

The takeover of the administration of KL locations by Selangor, he added, will be based on the documentation of previously-established agreements.

“We have to look back on past agreements as a basis for the borders (separating KL and Selangor) while protecting the sovereignty of both locations and adopting a practical approach to the matter,” Amirudin said during a press conference, here today.

He also said the demarcation of KL-Selangor has consistently been a complex matter, considering the layout and density of the land in the earmarked areas.

“Based on past experiences, the KL-Selangor demarcation is quite complex as it involves compact and developed premises, which is different from the forest and farming localities part of our previously-signed agreements with Pahang and Negri Sembilan state governments.

“Some of the premises involved (in the demarcation moves) are also residential areas on commercial or private land.

“However, (demarcation) is necessary as this involves various interests of both states, such as the collecting of land and assessment taxes as well as the enforcement activities and maintenance of utilities by local authorities.”

Also present at the press conference was Federal Territories Minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa, who said 26 overlapping areas between KL and Selangor have been identified.

Amirudin also said plans to include KL as part of the Greater Klang Valley’s special economic zone are an ongoing process.

“We (Selangor administration) have to prepare and complete our plan first before presenting it to the federal government so that there’s some understanding between the Greater Klang Valley and KL.

“If KL can be included (as part of the special economic zone), then that would be good, but it has its own interest as a business and administrative centre.” – February 5, 2024
