MySPIKE development shows civil servants have the chops, says HR minister

Public servants are ministry’s most valuable asset, says Steven Sim

3:16 PM MYT

PUTRAJAYA – The expertise of the Human Resources Ministry in developing the Malaysian Skills Integration Management System (MySPIKE) is seen as a reflection of the efficiency in its service delivery, said minister Steven Sim.

Proud of the capabilities possessed by his ministry’s personnel, Sim, in his speech at the ministry’s monthly assembly here today, said the workforce was the ministry’s most valuable asset.

“People used to think that civil servants could not develop any system on their own. So, we (the government) had to appoint contractors.

“In reality, civil servants are implementers, thinkers and strategic planners. We have these abilities within the civil service. We should give them the opportunity,” he said, adding that the expertise of his ministry’s personnel had saved the government RM8 million in expenditure.

MySPIKE is a single platform used in the programme accreditation, personnel certification, student registration, assessment verification and overall certification for technical and vocational education and training agencies adopting the Malaysian Skills Certificate system.

To enhance the performance of the Human Resources Ministry, Sim also encouraged the ministry’s personnel to apply the philosophy of Ren and Li, which are principles rooted in Chinese society, in carrying out their daily tasks.

Quoting the Confucian concept and teaching to improve morality and uphold human ethics, Sim said that Ren meant love and humanity, while Li referred to rituals or propriety.

At the assembly, Sim also welcomed his ministry’s newly appointed secretary-general Datuk Seri Khairul Dzaimee Daud, who joined the ministry on January 23.

“Welcome aboard! Despite being a new appointee, I was told that the new secretary-general has been going to the ground (to meet with the staff). I appreciate his dedication,” the minister added. – February 14, 2024
