KUALA LUMPUR – An 8-year-old girl went through an agonising ordeal after her foot was trapped in an escalator at a Setapak shopping centre yesterday, leading to injuries to her toes.

The Fire and Rescue Department said its operations centre received an emergency call regarding the incident at 4.56pm.

The department’s operations commander, Shamsul Bahri Hashim, said that a team of five members was promptly dispatched to the scene.

“Upon arrival (of the team), the girl’s toe was found to be stuck in the escalator. The department and the building management successfully freed the victim’s leg,” he said in a press release today.

Shamsul said it took over half an hour to free the girl’s foot from the escalator.

He said that the young girl sustained injuries to three left toes, with one of them being broken.

“The victim was transferred to the Health Ministry for necessary medical treatment and further procedures,” he added. – February 19, 2024
