Home Ministry keeping close eye on man who claims to be prophet’s descendant: minister

Mawla Muhammad Amin currently being monitored to ensure he does not spread deviant teachings of Islam

3:54 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – The Home Ministry is closely monitoring the activities of Mawla Muhammad Amin, a foreign individual claiming to be a descendant of Prophet Muhammad, to prevent the spread of deviant teachings.

Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said he had received many questions regarding the status of the “mawla” (meaning “Islamic leader or master”), who has gained influence and many followers in the country.

He said that the self-proclaimed mawla’s “selling point” was that he is allegedly the 38th generational descendant of the prophet.

Saifuddin said Muhammmad Amin enters and exits the country using a social pass, which allows him to be in Malaysia for up to 90 days.

“Based on our records, he is an Algerian (resident) with a French passport. We are closely monitoring the religious activities involved to ensure there were no violations of state religious enactments,” Saifuddin told a press conference.

“It is up to the state authorities to take appropriate action if there is any violation.

He added that the authorities would continue to monitor such individuals and movements to ensure that their presence did not undermine public security.

Yesterday, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain told Scoop that Muhammad Amin’s group, known as “Kerajaan 9”, was among various religious movements being monitored.

Razarudin said the activities of groups such as The Ahmadi Religion of Peace and Light, Millah Abraham @ Ibrahim, The Last Dream Journey, Habib Shah Order, SiHulk, and Nur Mutiara Mutmainnah are also under scrutiny.

He then added that the police will cooperate with Islamic religious departments to counter the deviant teachings.

Over 50 police reports have been received, resulting in the detention of over 20 individuals associated with deviant teachings.

For the upcoming year, a collaboration with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has been planned to curb the spread of deviant teachings, particularly on social media.

Investigations are ongoing regarding Kerajaan 9, with the consideration of blocking individuals involved with it from entering the country.

Notably, SiHulk’s founders and followers, listed as most wanted, are hiding in New Zealand. The National Council for Islamic Religious Affairs declared SiHulk’s teachings heretical, and recent viral videos showcase deviations from Islam.

The teachings of The Ahmadi Religion of Peace and Light and Millah Abraham @ Ibrahim are also deemed as deviant by religious authorities.

The Last Dream Journey, propagated by “Sittah Annur” was declared deviant in 2015, and Annur, who claimed to have direct communication with Allah, was arrested in 2021. – February 21, 2024
