‘Bang, kau tunggu!’ heard in court as five p-hailing riders charged with murder

Man believed to be family member of victim shouts threat at one of the accused

11:51 AM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – A tense atmosphere gripped the Bandar Baru Bangi magistrates’ court this morning as the five individuals suspected of causing the death of a man were charged with murder.

The individuals charged with the murder of 41-year-old Shahril Samad at Taman Pelangi Semenyih 2, Beranang, are Mohd Yuree Ranoff Mohd Bachuri, 41; Azharul Azuan Mohd Azan, 34; Tengku Izham Tengku Hamid, 22; Mahazir Nordin, 43; and Syamsul Qamar Ayob, 40.

They were accused of committing the crime on February 20, at around 9.54pm. Their charges are framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which is read together with Section 34 of the same code.

This means that they face the death penalty, or 30 to 40 years in jail and a maximum of 12 strokes of whipping if found guilty.

However, no pleas were recorded from any of the five accused this morning when the charges were presented before magistrate Nurdiyanah Mohd Nawawi, as murder cases fall under the jurisdiction of the high court.

The magistrate also denied bail for the accused and scheduled case mention for April 25.

Deputy public prosecutor Siti Nur Liyana Sulaiman handled today’s proceedings, while lawyer Mohd Hafiz is representing all the accused.

Chaos erupted momentarily in the courtroom when a man shouted, “bang, kau tunggu!” at one of the accused, who was in the dock.

The man, believed to be a family member of the deceased, was promptly escorted out by court police.

On February 21, it was reported that police had arrested five individuals suspected of fatally assaulting a man following a road accident. The incident occurred when the deceased’s car skidded and collided with a fence in a residential area.

Kajang district police chief Mohd Zaid Hassan said that the victim was pursued by members of the public after the accident.

Witnesses in the residential area recounted that the victim was forcibly removed from the car by a group of men and was subsequently beaten to death with his hands tied.

The victim was discovered lying in the middle of the road with his hands bound. – February 27, 2024
