KUALA LUMPUR  – Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has pledged to vigilantly monitor the conduct of civil servants and uphold the state’s public service standards.

His Majesty further advocated for an immediate reduction in the burdensome bureaucracy and regulations affecting government affairs.

In his royal address at the opening ceremony of the First Meeting of the Second Session of the 15th Selangor Legislative Assembly, Sultan Sharafuddin said civil servants must cultivate a “sense of urgency” and act promptly to ensure fast and effective services are rendered to the people.

“I strongly oppose the negligent and lazy attitudes currently prevalent among civil servants, which contribute to the delay and complications of numerous development projects.

“For instance, the flood mitigation projects and the repair work on public facilities have been consistently delayed.

“I express deep concern that if such attitudes persist among civil servants, the people will continue to bear the consequences,” His Majesty said.

The Selangor assembly sitting is scheduled to run for 10 days until March 11.

Meanwhile, Sultan Sharafuddin urged state assembly members to avoid disagreements and to discuss issues responsibly and respectfully.

“Avoid extreme acts that bring harm and affect the good name of this honourable House,” he said.

He also requested that this assembly be the best example for the people, where all debates must take place with integrity and responsibility.

The sitting must not serve as a platform for disseminating slander, discussing sensitive issues, or spreading fake news; rather, the discussions should contribute to the welfare of the people and the advancement of the state. – February 27, 2024
