Cops to take Hadi’s statement tomorrow over allegedly offensive article

Police will meet PAS president at party HQ following Selangor Sultan’s royal rebuke

3:34 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – Police will take PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang’s statement tomorrow over an article that allegedly insulted Malay rulers.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said police will meet Hadi at PAS headquarters on Jalan Raja Laut out of consideration for his health condition.

“Police are arranging for his statement to be taken at 2.30pm tomorrow,” he said after a police event at Pulapol, here, today.

Police are investigating the Marang MP for sedition over an article titled “Ketinggian Islam Wajib Dipertahankan” (Islam’s supremacy must be defended) posted on Facebook on February 20.

The article earned Hadi a royal rebuke from the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, for disrespecting the Federal Constitution as well as the Malay Rulers who are the guardians of Islam in the country.

The Sultan had also taken Hadi to task for raising political polemics to gain support, especially from Malay Muslims, besides showing disregard for previous royal decrees.

Razarudin confirmed that the investigation is being conducted in under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. – March 4, 2024
