KUALA LUMPUR – Police have opened an investigation paper against Bersatu’s Badrul Hisham Shaharin, also known as Chegubard, for making allegedly seditious remarks regarding a Mercedes-Benz gifted by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said a similar investigation has also been initiated into Muhammad Zahid Md Arip, who is Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s former political secretary.

The investigations are under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948.

“Both individuals will be called in for their statements,” Razarudin told reporters after a ceremony at Bukit Aman earlier today.

Anwar was seen arriving at Parliament in a black Mercedes with the registration plate VEV 1158 recently, prompting speculation. It was later reported that online checks showed the vehicle was registered to the Agong, Sultan Ibrahim.

Razarudin also commented on police’s efforts to locate Datuk Seri Muhammad Adlan Berhan, the son-in-law of former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, noting that additional information had been sent to Interpol.

“Now police are just waiting for further feedback from Interpol regarding our application for a red notice,” he said.

Malaysian police are searching for Adlan to question him in connection with corruption allegations involving the registration, recruitment and biometric storage of migrant workers in a ministry. – March 4, 2024
