British Airways resumes service to KL, Bangkok late 2024

KUALA LUMPUR – Kuala Lumpur will once again be a destination for the United Kingdom’s flag carrier, British Airways, from late October.

The airline firm is set to return to the Southeast Asian market by resuming its services to Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok for the winter 2024-2025 schedules.

It will fly daily from London Heathrow to Kuala Lumpur with a four-class Boeing 787, renewing its competition with Malaysia Airlines which is currently the only airline offering daily direct flights to the British capital.

Flights to Bangkok will be thrice weekly, from London Gatwick, a move meant to address the route’s “lower yields” while meeting demand from travellers.

The airline’s return to Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok was announced recently by its chairman and chief executive Sean Doyle during the launch of the carrier’s £7-billion (RM42-billion) modernisation plan, aimed at strengthening business in the Asian market after the Covid-19 pandemic.

Its decision to make amendments to its routes comes from operational strategies to boost customer experience and operational efficiency, as well as shifting market demands.
