Fire razes 45 homes in Sabah water village, leaving 180 homeless

SANDAKAN – About 180 people were left homeless after a fire razed 45 houses in a water settlement in Kg Tanjung Batu, Jalan Tanjung Batu Laut Logpond, Tawau today. 

No casualties were reported, but it was a tragedy for the victims nevertheless to lose their homes only five days before the start of Ramadan, and less than a week before the reopening of the new school year on Monday. 

The Tawau Fire and Rescue Department confirmed receiving a call regarding the fire at 2.31pm today, and firefighters took about two hours to control the fire.

All 45 wooden houses were completely destroyed, involving an area of about 9,000 sq m, according to the department.

Three wooden bridges connecting about 300 houses in the village were also razed by the fire. – March 6, 2024
