KUALA LUMPUR – Firefighters are fighting a massive blaze at the Mydin outlet in Manjoi, near Ipoh, Perak.

The Perak Fire and Rescue Department’s assistant operations director, Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad, told Bernama there that efforts to douse the blaze at the hypermarket were underway.

A post on Facebook by a user in the area said the fire was believed to have started around 7pm, before engulfing the top part of the building as of 8.15pm.

Videos and photos on social media show the fire emerging from the top of the building.

Sabarodzi also told Bernama that the Fire Department received an emergency call at 7.09pm, after which a team from the Ipoh station was dispatched to the site.

“We received a call about smoke in the TNB (Tenaga Nasional Bhd) switch room on the upper floor,” he said.

So far, there are no reports of any fatalities or injuries as a result of the fire, he added. – March 10, 2024
