No special incentives for Ramadan bazaar vendors this year: Ewon

KUALA LUMPUR – There will be no special incentives given to hawkers and small traders for operating at the Ramadan bazaar this year.

In a parliamentary written reply to Abdul Latiff Abdul Rahman (Kuala Krai-PN), Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (Kuskop) Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick said the hawkers and small traders may apply for other schemes such as the Tekun Funding Scheme, and other incentives by Amanah Ikhthiar Malaysia and Bank Rakyat.

Ewon said that small vendors are welcomed to join the Madani government’s raya sales programme in Putrajaya during Ramadan.

“Kuskop also collaborates with the Putrajaya Corporation in organising the Raya Madani sales programme at the Putrajaya Ramadan Festival, which will take place at the Dataran Anjung Syawal, Precinct 3 from March 8 to 9.

“For this programme, Kuskop will provide incentives for the sale price of goods in order to allow the products needed for the festival to be sold at a discounted price of up to 20%,” he said in the reply.

Last year, the government also did not provide special incentives for small vendors who operate in Ramadan bazaars.

However, in February last year, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the Madani government would provide RM50 million to build and upgrade 3,000 stalls and kiosks as facilities for small hawkers at key locations across the country, during the re-tabling of Budget 2023. – March 12, 2024
