‘Datuk Malik’ denies links with Indian drug lord Jaffer

Abdul Malik Dasthigeer refutes allegations of being Indian drug lord Jaffer Sadiq Abdul Rahman's boss, labelling them slanderous

8:14 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – Abdul Malik Dasthigeer, popularly known as “Datuk Malik”, has denied having any connection to the alleged Indian drug lord, Jaffer Sadiq Abdul Rahman.

In a video posted on his Instagram account today, he said the accusation levelled against him is slander, adding that he has never met or even spoken to Jaffer before.

“The accusations made against me that I am his boss are fake, false, and slanderous, as I have never met or spoken to Jaffer.

“I’m a businessman in Malaysia, and this is the work of certain parties who want to tarnish my name in the industry,” he said.

At the same time, Malik said that he filed a police report at the Dang Wangi police headquarters in Kuala Lumpur yesterday and sent a copy of the report to the Indian High Commission.

“I have also asked my lawyers to take immediate action against media outlets and individuals who shared the fake news that tarnished my reputation,” he added.

On Monday, an Indian journalist revealed in his investigative report that a Malaysian man was allegedly the “mastermind” behind a recently arrested drug lord during a RM1.13 billion drug bust in Delhi, India, by the Narcotic Control Bureau.

Meanwhile, today, the journalist from India, A. Shankar, identified Malik, noting him as a film distributor in Malaysia who also serves as Jaffer’s boss.

In a one-hour-long video titled Savukku Shankar Exposes Kingpin Jaffer Sadiq’s Boss on his YouTube channel, the journalist directly attacked Malik showing his photos with renowned Indian celebrities.

“Datuk Malik is Jaffer’s boss, who has financial links with Indian film stars.

“One or two years ago, Datuk Malik was arrested for possession of drugs and was released on the same day by paying US$6 million (RM28.1 million) bail money,” the journalist revealed in his video

Malik is the founder and chairman of Malik Group of Companies, which comprises Malik Streams Corporation Sdn Bhd, Malik Maju Sdn Bhd, Malik Streams Properties Sdn Bhd, Malik Streams Antenna Movies Sdn Bhd, and Malik Streams Production & Distribution.

He is well known for bringing in artists from India to perform Tamil concerts in Malaysia.

Malik was arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing, and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 last year and was released a few days later on bail. – March 13, 2024
