Shoddy work can sink your firm’s future, Loke tells those with govt contracts

Deliver or lose long-term chances of getting deals from Putrajaya, transport minister warns

PUTRAJAYA – Transport Minister Anthony Loke has called for exemplary performance from firms undertaking government projects, warning them of consequences if they fall short of expectations.

He said this reflected Putrajaya’s commitment to awarding grants to firms offering the highest potential returns.

Loke underscored the importance of transparency in evaluations conducted by his ministry to ensure contracts are awarded in the government’s best interest.

He cautioned that underperformance could affect other opportunities for the firms in government projects.

“If your performance is not good, then this will jeopardise your company in the future,” he said during a speech yesterday evening.

“We are looking at the long term, if you do not deliver, then do not expect that you will be given any other opportunity anywhere in the ministry or the government.”

His remarks came during the launch of the Pay As Use contract-handover ceremony for locomotives and wagons between Railway Assets Corp (RAC) and rolling-stock manufacturing and maintenance firm SMH Rail Sdn Bhd.

“We ensured that all decision-making processes were done with the best method, ensuring the best returns for the government. I am confident that RAC’s evaluation is comprehensive and professional,” he said.

“This is so that (the grants of government projects) cannot be disputed by any party. Let the company that made the best offer win the contract.”

He stressed the need for impartiality in contract awards to prevent disputes, urging fair competition where the most deserving company secures the contract.

Loke expressed hope for a successful collaboration between RAC and SMH rail, contingent upon the latter’s effective execution of its duties. – March 16, 2024
