KUALA LUMPUR – The Perak Health Department has confirmed receiving an anonymous letter alleging sexual harassment by a senior doctor at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital, Perak.

In a statement today, the department director Dr Feisul Idzwan Mustapha said the letter was received via post on February 28, 2024.

“The department had immediately established an independent investigation committee the very next day (February 29).

“The committee consists of officers appointed by the ministry’s deputy director-general in charge of medicine. The investigation is currently underway, with evidence being collected.

“The Health Department views this accusation seriously and has zero tolerance towards cases of sexual assault in the workplace,” he said.

The letter has been making the rounds on social media since then.

An X user also shared that he had found the anonymous letter in the parking lot of Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital.

He claimed that the letter was authored by a group of housemen undergoing training in one of the hospital’s departments.

The letter, which was addressed to the hospital’s director Datuk Dr Megat Iskandar Megat Abdul Hamid, claimed that the housemen were threatened and sexually assaulted by a doctor at the hospital several times.

It was also alleged that the doctor was involved in bribery concerning patients and was accused of theft for appropriating equipment for personal use outside the hospital.

It was also stated that they had filed complaints with a department head. Instead of receiving any support, they were criticised and threatened.

This led them to resort to sending out anonymous letters in hopes of receiving assistance with the matter.

“We hope that, during the investigation, the doctor will be reassigned to a department without housemen. Following the investigation, the doctor should be relocated to a location outside of Perak hospitals.

“Please investigate and help us,” the letter read.

The letter also listed four other male doctors, requesting that they not harass the housemen. – March 16, 2024.
