Ex-Home Ministry officer charged with 21 counts of submitting false documents

Accused allegedly attempted to claim reimbursement for expenses totaling RM5,720.30 between May, August 2018

KUALA LUMPUR – A former chief assistant secretary at the Home Ministry has been charged with 21 counts of submitting false documents in order to claim over RM5,000 from the ministry.

Ku Aznal Shahri bin Ku Abd Hamid, 49, faces 10 charges under Section 18 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009, 10 additional charges, and one charge under Section 471 of the Penal Code for submitting fake documents.

The charges were presented to the accused before judge Azura Alwi at the Kuala Lumpur sessions court today.

Despite the charges, the accused pleaded not guilty and claimed trial.

It is alleged that during his tenure as chief assistant secretary at the ministry, Aznal submitted false documents to claim reimbursement for hotel rentals, domestic travel allowances, and toll payments, amounting to RM5,720.30, spanning from May to August 2018.

After recording his plea, the judge set bail at RM4,000 and ordered the accused to surrender his passport. The court has scheduled the next case mention for April 18. – March 20, 2024
