Police to surrender unclaimed RM500,000 cash to Finance Ministry if owner remains elusive

Despite claims from a company director asserting ownership, no one has yet come forward

SHAH ALAM – Police will transfer over RM500,000 found in a luggage at a Damansara shopping centre parking lot to the Finance Ministry if no one comes forward to claim it.

Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said that despite claims from a company director asserting ownership, no one has come forward to testify.

“The owner has yet to come forward despite assurances. He alleges the money belongs to his company.

“If there’s no claim, we’ll follow procedure, including media advertising.

“If unclaimed within the stipulated period, the money will revert to the government treasury,” he told a press conference.

Hussein also mentioned ongoing internal investigations into the money’s origins, including fingerprint analysis and potential drug contamination.

“We’re delving into ownership, transactions, and circumstances surrounding the money’s presence.

“Fingerprints on the luggage have been compromised due to prior handling by security,” he added.

Yesterday, Hussein revealed that the company director, previously expected to testify, failed to appear despite earlier assurances.

“We received a complaint on March 21 from an individual pledging to testify. Yet, no appearance has been made,” he explained.
