Sultan Ibrahim holds audience with Tan Sri Azam Baki on fighting corruption, presents commissioner with honey to symbolise end of ‘honeymoon’ period

2:05 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim says the fight against corruption remains a paramount focus of his reign.

On his official Facebook page, Sultan Ibrahim said Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief Tan Sri Azam Baki was granted an audience to gauge the latest developments of the enforcement agency.

The audience with Azam lasted for nearly 30 minutes.

Calling corruption the country’s biggest enemy, the King said: “As I have previously stressed, my honeymoon is over – now go catch the bees.”

He also presented Azam with a container of honey, symbolising the end of the “honeymoon” period.

Sultan Ibrahim was installed as the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong on January 31 after the tenure of Pahang’s Al-Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah came to an end.

He vowed to eradicate corruption in Malaysia as one of his key priorities when he was installed as the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong in January.

In an exclusive interview with The Straits Times Singapore, Sultan Ibrahim said that ensuring unity in the country will also be among his greatest challenges.

His majesty emphasised that a stable government must have consistent, sustainable policies needed to improve the country’s economy. – April 1, 2024
