KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has recorded celebrity entrepreneur Datuk Seri Aliff Syukri Kamarzaman’s statement to aid investigations into his controversial Aidilfitri song video. 

In a statement today, the commission said its investigating officer had also seized a SIM card believed to belong to the suspect as well as a mobile phone used to upload the music video. 

It added that the Raya clip uploaded on Aliff’s social media platforms contains inappropriate content which could violate Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act (CMA) 1998, which prohibits the use of network facilities to transmit communication deemed to be offensive or could cause annoyance to another person. 

Investigations, the MCMC said, are being conducted under Section 233 of the CMA. If found guilty, an individual can be fined up to RM50,000, and jailed for a maximum term of one year, or both.

Previously, Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh had urged the public to reject Aliff’s latest “obscene” music video teaser released in conjunction with upcoming Raya celebrations. 

The video, Akmal said, was not “out of the box” or innovative content. Instead, it had “no brains” (lacked substance) and showed no sensitivity towards the sanctity of the holy month of Ramadan. 

Akmal, who is the Merlimau assemblyman, had also taunted unity government ally DAP by questioning whether the Pakatan Harapan component party would stand by Aliff’s actions. 

In the one-minute-25-second video, Aliff is seen soaking in a jacuzzi filled with soap bubbles, wearing a “singlet” and what looks like shorts.

The jacuzzi was surrounded by five male dancers, each displaying a gentle demeanour and dressed in traditional baju melayu. 

The video, which received widespread flak from netizens, has since been taken down. – April 3, 2024
