PUTRAJAYA – Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has denied acknowledging an addendum order about Datuk Seri Najib Razak serving his remaining jail time under house arrest, contrary to the former prime minister’s claims.

However, Saifuddin confirmed that he received a letter from Najib’s lawyer, Tan Sri Shafee Abdullah, about the judicial review.

“No (I have not seen the addendum). I am not a member of the Pardons Board, so I do not know either,” he told a press conference at his ministry here today.

He also said he did not know about any additional documents mentioned in the addendum order.

When asked if he would still provide full cooperation during the legal proceedings, he said, “Yes, (but) we haven’t arrived at that stage yet.” 

“I follow reports (about the matter). Of course, I will respond accordingly when the time comes about matters within our knowledge,” he said.

“That is all I can comment on. I confirm that I received the letter (by Shafee) and am following the media.”

Yesterday, Najib applied for a judicial review to serve his remaining prison sentence, which is supposed to be until 2028, under house arrest.

The 70-year-old claimed that an addendum order issued by the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong on January 29 existed, where the document allegedly allowed him to serve his remaining jail term under “house arrest”.

In his judicial review, Najib requested the respondents – one of whom is the home minister – confirm the addendum order’s existence and execute its order while also providing its original copies.

The hearing for the review, which was supposed to be today, was delayed to April 17 after Shafee informed the court that he needed to obtain one more signature for an affidavit supporting Najib’s application. – April 4, 2024
