DAP to lodge report over viral graphic depicting Pakatan, Umno as ‘dogs’

Screencap claims to be translation of Mandarin excerpt from party’s website

8:05 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – DAP will be lodging a police report regarding a viral screencap accusing the party of labelling Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Umno as “dogs” held under its control to “attack” the Malays.

In a statement today, DAP national publicity secretary Teo Nie Ching denied the legitimacy of the screencap, which claims to be a translation of an excerpt from the party’s official website.

“These malicious accusations are false and the quote (depicted in the screencap) was not mentioned on any of the party’s official platforms.

“(The image) is actually a graphic made to spread slander and stir up controversy,” said Teo, who is also deputy communications minister.

She added that the screenshot, which alleged that it was a Bahasa Malaysia translation of an excerpt from DAP’s official website written in Mandarin, said: “We don’t need dogs to attack Malays. We just need to create dogs from the Malays (PH + Umno) to destroy the Malays and Islam!

“Our Malay dogs (PH + Umno), they think we (DAP) are their God… their old God is dead!”

Teo also said the attempted slander had had no negative effect on the party’s Malay membership, instead asserting that there were even more Malay members flocking to the party as they “hate lies like these”.

“DAP has been clarifying to the public such slander for years now… these kinds of superficial attempts are the futile work of those who are desperate and out of ideas.”

Urging authorities to take the necessary action against those who spread the graphic, Teo said the party would hold a press conference on the matter soon. – April 4, 2024
