KUALA LUMPUR – The Islamic Development Department (Jakim) has been instructed to summon relevant parties tomorrow to obtain further clarification regarding the viral issue of a shoe brand with a logo allegedly resembling the word “Allah”.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Mohd Na’im Mokhtar said this in referring to a widely circulated post on social media regarding the issue.
“I have directed Jakim to summon the relevant parties tomorrow to obtain further clarification.
“Any party with relevant information can channel it to the authorities, including the police,” he said in a statement today.
He also advised all parties to remain calm and give space for Jakim and the authorities to investigate this allegation.
“The Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) will not compromise if any party has clearly taken actions that insult the Islamic religion,” he said.
Earlier, Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh gave fashion company Vern a 24-hour ultimatum to explain allegations of a logo resembling the word “Allah” in Arabic script on the sole of its shoes.
Akmal said a boycott will be initiated against the products of the company if there is no explanation within that period.
The issue went viral on social media after a user claimed that a logo resembling the word “Allah” was found on the sole of shoes he had recently purchased for his wife. – April 7, 2024
