KUALA LUMPUR – The “All In Hotel” signage does not resemble the word “Allah”, said Perlis Mufti Datuk Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin after a group complained about the name of the business in the state.

He has advised Muslims to not make an issue out of nothing but instead to evaluate what was actually written. 

“However, if it was meant to mock Muslims, then we shall take appropriate action. If there is no problem, then do not create any,” he posted on his Facebook.

He was referring to a group of people in Perlis who were unhappy with the use of “All In” for a homestay business in the state, and that it was owned by non-Muslims.

Asri said the owner was worried that many items on their premises have all been printed with the “All In” branding.

“The owner did not write ‘Allah’. It is quite clear that the word is ‘All in’ and not ‘Allah’.”

Aside from the recent controversy surrounding socks printed with the word “Allah” being sold at KK Mart, a Facebook video went viral showing a man claiming that a high-heel shoe from Vern’s had an inscription on its sole, said to resemble the word “Allah”.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain told Scoop that police opened an investigation paper on the issue after several reports were made nationwide after the posting went viral.

He also told a press conference today that authorities have seized 1,145 pairs of shoes from Vern’s outlets in Johor, Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Kedah. 

Vern’s Holding Sdn Bhd founder Datuk Seri Ng Chuan Hoo also repeatedly apologised over the logo and clarified that its design was inspired by the silhouette of a high-heeled shoe. 

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission has since cautioned that it will not hesitate to take action against individuals attempting to exploit social media platforms by making unwarranted comments and potentially triggering disharmony over the shoe logo issue. – April 8, 2024
