KUALA LUMPUR – The head of Hamas’ political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, lost three sons to an Israeli airstrike in Gaza yesterday, reported international media.

Al Jazeera said Haniyeh confirmed the deaths of his children Hazem, Amir and Mohammad in the strike north-west of Gaza City on the first day of Aidilfitri.

Also killed were “at least three” of Haniyeh’s grandchildren.

The group were reportedly driving when the strike was launched, en route to making an Aidilfitri visit to relatives who lived at the Shati refugee camp in the area.

The Hamas leader, who is based in Qatar,  repeated his calls for a permanent ceasefire and the return of displaced Palestinians.

He also told the media that 60 of his relatives had been killed in the six-month war. – April 11, 2024
