KUALA LUMPUR – The 14-year-old daughter of the Lahad Datu police chief died today after allegedly accidentally shooting her father’s gun.

A Lahad Datu police headquarters spokesperson confirmed the incident to Scoop.

The victim was found dead in a room in their residence in Taman Tabanak at 12.42pm today.

The incident is believed to have happened when Lahad Datu police chief Dzulbaharin Ismail was on duty in the district police headquarters.

He purportedly left his service pistol at home.

Dzulbaharin was appointed as the district police chief recently on April 1.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain confirmed the incident to Bernama and said that further investigations are being carried out.

It was also reported that the victim’s 16-year-old sister found her lying in the room after returning from school.

Razarudin said a post-mortem will be carried out around 9am tomorrow, adding that police are currently gathering witnesses to record statements, Bernama reported. – April 16, 2024
