[UPDATED] X’d out: social media platform down across Malaysia

After reports of complaints peaked at 3.48pm, they are now slowly stabilising

KUALA LUMPUR – Social media platforms X and X Pro are suffering outages in Malaysia, following reports from local users.

According to outage tracking website Downdetector.com, 57 reports were lodged as of 3.25pm, skyrocketing from half an hour before.

For now, the platforms are accessible to other users globally.

The number of reports reached a peak of 120 as of 3.48pm, and is slowly decreasing, based on latest data from the same website.

Regional neighbours, such as Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand, did not suffer outages of the platform.

Checks by Scoop found that certain users are unable to access their accounts via X’s mobile app but could log into the web versions, whereas other users are experiencing the opposite.

The services resumed by 4.31pm today.

The social media platform has experienced several outages after Tesla founder Elon Musk spent US$44 billion (RM210.5 billion) to acquire Twitter in October 2022.

One of its biggest global outages last year left thousands of users high and dry.

After acquiring Twitter, Musk renamed it to X, changed its content policy and lost more than half of its advertising revenue. – April 20, 2024
