You won’t succeed in breaking unity govt, Anwar tells ‘desperados’

Prime minister reaffirms robust cooperation between Putrajaya, states

3:10 PM MYT

SHAH ALAM – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim reaffirmed the robust cooperation at both federal and state administrative levels, dismissing rumours of disunity within the government.

Addressing concerns about discord within the unity government, Anwar attributed such speculations to a few “desperados” attempting to sow division within the administration.

“As of now, there are no indications of any fractures, not even minor ones, between Pakatan Harapan, Umno-Barisan Nasional, as well as (parties from) Sabah and Sarawak.

“There are only a handful of ‘desperados’ trying to sow discord. To them, I say, ‘good luck and goodbye, your efforts will not succeed,'” he said during PKR’s special 25th-anniversary assembly at Ideal Convention Centre today.

He also refuted claims of issues faced by ministers, asserting that such concerns were only voiced by unsolicited outside quarters and did not represent the federal leadership’s stance.

Regarding the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s addendum order for ex-prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to serve his remaining sentence under house arrest, Anwar reiterated his stance of non-intervention, saying that such a decision must be made in a Pardons Board meeting.

“We did not erase records and the judge’s decision. We are not attempting to lighten whatever the judge decided. That is the way we are doing it. Yes, it is not liked by certain quarters.

Our stance is that the decision must be made by the Pardons Board, and the final say is by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in the board meeting,” he clarified.

Anwar, who is also PKR president, urged the delegates attending today’s assembly to remain committed to the party’s reform agenda.

Simultaneously, he cautioned against excessive efforts to appease elite factions, emphasising the importance of maintaining a connection between immediate change and the will of the people. – April 21, 2024
