Bring back your wanted son-in-law before commenting on politics, Fahmi tells Muhyiddin

Comms minister says ex-PM has no moral standing if he fails to call Datuk Seri Muhammad Adlan Berhan home

KUALA LUMPUR – Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil has called out Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, urging him to address his son-in-law’s legal situation before commenting on other matters.

Earlier today, the Bersatu president said that MCA and MIC’s decision not to participate in the unity government’s campaign for the upcoming Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election could benefit Perikatan Nasional’s victory in the area.

In response, Fahmi, who is PKR information chief, stressed the importance of Muhyiddin’s cooperation with authorities regarding his son-in-law’s status before discussing other matters.

“Before commenting on anything else, I request Tan Sri Muhyiddin to cooperate with the authorities to bring back his son-in-law who is on the run.

“Don’t talk about Kuala Kubu Baharu or by-elections, bring back your son-in-law, and then (only) I think you (Muhyiddin) are in a better position to talk,” he told reporters during an Aidilfitri open house he hosted in Lembah Pantai.

Fahmi highlighted that Datuk Seri Muhammad Adlan Berhan, Muhyiddin’s son-in-law, is considered a fugitive from justice and emphasised Muhyiddin’s role as a leader in resolving the matter.

“As a leader, he (Muhyiddin) should be a better example by telling his son-in-law to come back to Malaysia and cooperate with the ongoing investigation.

“If he fails to do this basic thing, he loses the moral standing to talk about anything else,” he said.

Last February, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) expressed confidence in locating Adlan, who remains at large as part of an investigation into corrupt practices involving foreign worker biometric data.

Last year, MACC sought Adlan and Mansoor Saat, a lawyer, director, and shareholder of NERS Sdn Bhd, to assist in an investigation into corrupt practices involving the registration, acquisition, and storage of biometric data of foreign workers at a ministry.

On August 9, Adlan said through his lawyer that he would return to Malaysia as soon as possible to answer all questions and assist the MACC with any investigations, as long as elements of threats and persecution against him were eliminated.

Mansoor also denied being on the run, claiming that he left Malaysia legally to attend to business matters and had cooperated with the MACC, which knew his whereabouts. – April 21, 2024
