KLIA shooting suspect says he ‘still loves his wife’

Hafizul Harawi declares this repeatedly as he was taken to Kota Bharu magistrates’ court as police apply for remand extension today

KUALA LUMPUR – The suspect, who opened fire at his wife at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 arrival hall on April 14, has said that he “still loves his wife”. 

The 38-year-old Hafizul Harawi, who was being taken to Kota Bharu magistrates’ court to apply for an extension of remand this morning, repeatedly declared his love for his wife. 

“Assalamualaikum, I still love my wife, Farah Md Isa. Thank you,” he said. 

Earlier, Hafizul arrived at the courthouse at 8.35am under heavy police escorts, clad in lockup attire. 

The police seek to extend the remand order to assist with the investigation under Section 8 of the Firearms Act (Heavier Penalty) 1971.  

The media reported that Hafizul has been remanded for seven days since April 16. 

Previously, it was reported that Hafizul planned to flee to Mecca, Saudi Arabia. 

In the incident two weeks ago, the man fired two shots, believed to have been aimed at his wife. 

One of the shots hit his wife’s bodyguard. The victim is being treated in the hospital. 

The suspect is believed to have bought the gun he used from a Thai national for RM5,000. – April 22, 2024
