KUALA LUMPUR – The Policy Advisory Committee to the Prime Minister (PMAC) has been formed to provide advisory services on national development and economic resilience, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said.

The committee, formed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, will be chaired by Tan Sri Mohd Hassan Marican, with top corporate figure Datuk Ahmad Fuad Md Ali and prominent economists Prof Yeah Kim Leng and Nungsari Ahmad Radhi as its members.

PMAC members will not receive any payment from the government, the PMO said in a statement today.

PMAC will take over where a previous committee – the Advisory Committee to the Finance Minister (ACFIN) – left off after its term ended in February. The previous committee was also chaired by Hassan.

“The proposals submitted by ACFIN have received due consideration, and some of them are now in the process of implementation,” the PMO added.

After ACFIN was formed in February last year, its secretariat co-chair Nurul Izzah Anwar said it would focus on four areas, namely, government revenue and expenditure, subsidy and social protection, consolidation of government-linked companies, and national debt.

The four focus areas had been selected by Anwar, who is also finance minister. – April 22, 2024
