Hafizul Harawi claims trial to the offences of possessing gun, bullets and firecrackers, having three MyKads belonging to others, using fake vehicle plate number

11:22 AM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – The suspected gunman of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) shooting incident pleaded not guilty to all seven charges brought against him at the Kota Bharu sessions court.

Hafizul Harawi, 38, claimed trial for the seven charges, which included possession of a firearm, before judge Nik Habri Muhamad.

He was charged under Section 8 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971 for possessing a firearm, Section 8(a) of the Arms Act 1960 for possessing bullets, and Section 8 of the Explosives Act 1957 for possessing a package of firecrackers without a permit.

Additionally, he faces three charges under the National Registration Regulations 1990 for possessing three MyKads belonging to other individuals, and one charge under Section 108(3)(f) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for using a fake vehicle registration number plate.

Deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Faiz Fitri Mohamad prosecuted while Hafizul remained unrepresented.

Initially, Faiz did not offer bail and requested remand for Hafizul in Sg Buloh Prison due to his involvement in another case in Selangor.

Judge Nik Habri denied bail for the firearms, arms, and explosives charges but granted bail of RM20,000 for the remaining four charges.

The court also ordered that Hafizul be remanded in Sg Buloh Prison for the duration of the proceedings.

May 23 has been fixed for the appointment of a lawyer, case mention, and document submission.

It was previously reported that the suspect was arrested in front of a private hospital by the special criminal investigation department of the Kelantan criminal investigation department at about 3pm on April 15.

Scoop previously reported that a bodyguard was seriously injured after being shot by the suspect.

In the incident two weeks ago, the man fired two shots, one of the shots hit his wife’s bodyguard. The victim is being treated at the hospital.

The suspect is believed to have bought the gun he used from a Thai national for RM5,000. – April 24, 2024
