Defence Ministry also sets up special fund for public contributions to next of kin

7:05 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – Putrajaya will be distributing emergency aid of RM10,000 to each family of the victims in the helicopter collision in Lumut.

The Defence Ministry has also set up a special fund for the public to contribute to the next of kin. However, the ministry has yet to announce banking details for the fund.

Minister Datuk Seri Khaled Nordin said in a statement that the armed forces would bear all final travel costs, which included courtesy flights and funeral arrangements for the victims.

“The board of inquiry established has been instructed to submit a preliminary report within 14 working days and a full report within 30 working days.”

The 10 crew members killed in the crash include Squadron 502 commanding officer Muhamad Amir Mohamad, T. Sivasutan (Squadron 502 pilot) and Mohd Shahrizan Mohd Termizi (Squadron 502 air quartermaster).

Others killed were Squadron 503 commanding officer Muhammad Firdaus Ramli, Wan Rezaudeen Kamal Zainal Abidin (Squadron 503 air tactical officer), Mohammad Amirulfaris Mohd Marzukhi and Muhammad Faisol Tamadun (Squadron 503 air quartermaster).

The three women killed in the collision were Joanna Felicia Rohna from the navy air base, Norfarahimi Saedy (West Armada Supply Depot) as well as Nor Rahiza Anuar (West Armada Supply Depot).

In the 9.32am incident yesterday, two navy helicopters crashed in Lumut while conducting the third rehearsal for a fly-past in conjunction with Navy Fleet Open Day, which was scheduled to be held this Saturday. It has since been cancelled. – April 24, 2024
