Lumut helicopter crash: crew member Sivasutan’s parents recall a respectful only son

The recently married navy officer had long wanted to be a helicopter pilot

7:12 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – T. Sivasutan, one of the victims of yesterday’s tragic helicopter crash at the navy base in Lumut, Perak, was newly-married as well as being an only son.

His last words to his father the night before he died were: “Dad, please wake me up, I have to fly tomorrow”.

Thanjappan Muniandy, 61, shared his last conversation with his son, when met at his residence in Taman Serdang Jaya here, today.

“I am devastated… he was the best child. To me, he had no flaw, and he had never raised his voice at us, his parents.

“I was supposed to be the one who had gone into the coffin first but like what Islam teaches, He (Allah) gives and He takes… so I accept this fate,” the retired teacher told Scoop.

He said his only son was a filial child who always listened to his parents.

In the early years of his service, Sivasutan had asked his parents, Thanjappan and his wife Parameswari Appaadoo, 60, which area of service he should choose: pilot or submarine captain.

“I remember before this he asked me and my wife if he should choose to become a pilot or submarine (captain). My wife asked him to choose a helicopter (pilot) because she feared that the underwater pressure could cause an accident.

“But now, this is his fate,” Thanjappan said.

Sivasutan, who had just gotten married three months ago, was one of the ten victims who died in a helicopter crash on Tuesday morning.

He is scheduled to be buried at the Crematorium Hindu Sabha Centre, Manjung at noon tomorrow.

Sivasutan leaves behind a widow, Harshini Chandrasegaran, 29, who is a dentist. – April 24, 2024
